Hats, Hats, and More Hats

I was browsing the Etsy featured sellers yesterday and I came upon this lovely lady.  Her name is Behida Dolić and she is a milliner living in Hudson, New York.  The hats that she makes are beautiful, but I was originally drawn in by her story.  According to the interview, Behida was born in Bosnia but moved to the United States in 1998 as a refugee of the Balkan War.  Her mother passed away when she was ten years old and her father when she was twelve.  Coming to the United States with her brother and two sisters, she was able to gradually learn english, put herself through art school, and make something of herself once graduated.  Her hats are gorgeous and her story is just remarkable.  Behida's Etsy shop can be found here and more of her work can be found here.

2012 Newport Folk Festival

Even though the lineup has some artists that I would enjoy seeing, it's still a little expensive for me.

"The Temptress of St. Tropez"

"I wasn't scandalous   I didn't want to be.  I wanted to be myself."  Vanity Fair interviews Brigitte Bardot for their March issue.  It's an intriguing read, and it's interesting to look back on some of her photographs.  The photograph collection "BB Forever:  Brigitte Bardot, the Legend" will land in several cities this year.  The article can be found here.

Black and Red

This remains one of my favorite photographs from the Newport Concours d'Elegance a couple of years ago.  The record box on the floor is pretty cool.

I Just Called to Say Jag Älskar Dig

I don't particularly care for Valentine's Day.  The whole idea that you show somebody how much you love them by going to dinner or buying them chocolates on a certain day seems a bit off the mark to me.  I think giving somebody flowers on a day other than Valentine's Day makes more of an impact than going through the motions on said "holiday."  You should not need a day to profess your love for someone.  I do love chocolate, though, so I welcome all cocoa bean products.

My mother always gives us little candies for Valentine's Day. A simple tissue with red ribbon holds the chocolates.

I did not eat chocolate for A WHOLE DAY so that my stomach would be able to handle all of this.

This is one of the cards that my mother sent to people for Valentine's Day. She made the card using fabric and various types of paper. One thing I do support on Valentine's Day is sending cards. Sending cards and notes is something that should be done more.

I was supposed to work tonight but I haven't been feeling well, so somebody picked up my shift. My night will consist of eating the rest of my chocolate and watching NCIS and New Girl (my "new" favorite show).

Made With Marimekko: The Card

For those sending cards this Valentine's Day, or any day, here is a neat idea on how to make your own, from Marimekko.

All Quiet on the Eastern Coast

I stopped by Narragansett Beach after I fed my sister's cat today.  I've come to the conclusion that I'm not much of a beach person, but I like it during the winter.  The beach was quiet and the clouds were ominous.

I was hoping this seagull wouldn't decide to go to the bathroom as I was shooting it's photograph.

Aside from my shoes and socks, I haven't worn the clothes in this photograph in a couple of years.  I figured why not get some use out of them today?  I chose to wear the F.C. Barcelona hat over spending 10 minutes doing my hair.

Ahoy

I had to go feed my sister's cat today. Seeing as how it takes 30 minutes to get down there, I figured that I would get my money's worth and take some photographs on her new couch while I was there. I couldn't get any good color photographs of the couch (not to mention my old A.P.C.'s looked terrible in color), but it is a 70's-esque gold velvet/velour. It actually looks quite good in her house. My tiredness may have something to do with the fact that I forgot to stop by her house after work and had to drive back down after supper. Anything for the animals.

My Saint James shirt may be my new favorite shirt, but it shrunk a little in the wash. They need to make a size in-between medium and large for me. I asked her bear what he thought of the shirt, and his look told me everything.
